PATIENT GUIDE TO VASECTOMY
WHAT IS VASECTOMY?
A vasectomy is a surgical procedure that involves removing a
tiny segment of the vas deferens, the tube that carries sperm
cells from the testicles to the urethra. Before vasectomy, sperm
cells are forced from the testicles through the vas deferens into
the urethra and out of the penis during ejaculation. After vasectomy,
the testicles continue to produce sperm cells that are then absorbed
by the body, as they can no longer move through the vas deferens.
HOW IS IT DONE?
Your vasectomy will take place in our office. We will give you
a long lasting local anesthetic that will make you comfortable
during the procedure. We use a "no scalpel" technique
using a laser-like instrument. A single small incision will be
made that will require no external stitches.
The procedure takes about 20 minutes and you will be able to
drive yourself home afterward.
